²³ Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out and went to his home, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself. So he died and was buried in the tomb of his father.

²⁴ Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. ²⁵ Absalom put Amasa in command of the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man named ^[a]Ithra the Israelite, who had married Abigail the daughter of Nahash, [the half sister of David and] the sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
